Notre-Dame Cathedral

Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica is one of Canada’s finest examples of French Gothic Revival religious architecture. Construction began in 1841, when Ottawa was still known as Bytown. In 1847, the church became the cathedral of the Diocese of Bytown. Its distinctive silver twin spires, added in 1858, have become a prominent feature of Ottawa’s skyline.
