The Walter Bean Grand River Trail is a multi-use recreational trail extending approximately 76–78 km along the Grand River through Waterloo Region. Named after Walter Bean (1908–1998), a local businessman and philanthropist, the trail was inspired by his vision of making the river’s natural beauty accessible to everyone. Initial funding was provided in 1996, and following his death, a community foundation was established in 1998 to carry on his vision.
