God Will Make A Way

I saw the ad that Don Moen is coming to Cambridge next week for his Christmas concert, and I didn’t hesitate to buy tickets for me and my wife right away. When I was in college, during the time I was passionate about worship and mission, he was one of the most influential people in my life. I loved listening to and singing his songs.

He is now 75 years old, but I still listen to his music.

“God Will Make a Way” is the song that made him famous. Don Moen wrote it in 1990 after receiving heartbreaking news: his wife’s sister and her husband lost their young son in a car accident, and another child was seriously injured. Their family was overwhelmed with grief. On the flight to comfort them, Don Moen prayed, asking God what he could possibly say to a family experiencing such pain. Then, a simple phrase came to his heart:

“God will make a way, where there seems to be no way.”

He wrote those words down along with a melody—and this became the song.

Sometimes, when we face difficult situations, we say, “There’s no way ahead of me. I’m not sure where I should go.” But we know that God is the only way for us, and He knows what is best for us. Therefore, we should say, “God will make a way!” in every situation.

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
Rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
