The Mohawk Institute Residential School was a Canadian Indian residential school that operated from 1831 to 1970. The school forcibly removed Indigenous children from their families and communities. Students were subjected to harsh discipline, manual labour, and a limited education that focused primarily on vocational training rather than academic development. Children experienced cultural suppression, physical and emotional abuse, and a profound loss of language and identity.
